Little Rose was started by me, Lyndsay Turrall, at the end of 2019 combining my love of unique, special, handmade children’s clothes with my passion for recycling and reusing as much as possible.
Little Rose’s journey began while I was taking some time out from working in retail to raise my daughter. I have worked in retail pretty much since I left school (with a few years out to work with horses – a passion of mine since I was a little girl). I worked my way up from a part time sales assistant to store manager but then then I became a mum after many years of trying and a round of IVF. I knew the moment my daughter was born that I didn’t want to return to working all the hours under the sun and never being around to watch her grow and help her thrive and I was lucky enough to be able to stay at home with her.
While I was at home with my little girl, I began making clothes for her as I often found that girls’ clothes were, well, too girly and don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind a bit of pink, but it was all just too much for me. I started sewing at school and have picked it up on and off since when I couldn’t find something I wanted or I wanted something different to what everyone else had. So, I decided to combine my love of sewing with my passion for recycling and took to making my little one clothes out of my old clothes and charity shop finds. My friends and family loved what I was making so I started making clothes as gifts and from there Little Rose was born.
One of the most important things to me when I launched Little Rose was to recycle and reuse as much as possible and to make it easier for you to do this too. This why all Little Rose clothing is designed to fit over reusable nappies. I have always been pretty eco conscious but after having my daughter I became much more aware of all the waste than often comes with having children. We switched to reusable nappies and wipes to try and eliminate as much waste as we could but then found most clothes didn’t fit over reusable nappies. I tried buying clothes the next size up but this wasn’t a great solution when you have a slim baby who now has a massive fluffy cloth butt so I started making leggings and rompers that could accommodate a cloth nappy.
So why recycled fabric? I was shocked to read that in the UK alone we send 13 million items of clothing to landfill every week and I knew that I wanted to do my small part to stop some of that happening. Every single Little Rose item is made from second-hand or vintage clothing and I strive to use as much material as possible and remake each old garment into a new of clothing that is unique as your child. Scrap and offcuts are combined to use again in new and exciting ways.
When you purchase from Little Rose you get a unique item of clothing made from repurposed clothing and everything is hand made by me in my dining room.
Everything is cut for cloth bums so is always suitable for a reusable nappy and the extra fabric allows for all the movement kids do without adding stress to seams so your Little Rose clothing will last longer.
The principle of keeping the environmental impact as low as possible travels right through the Little Rose journey and so I only use recyclable packaging, where possible made from recycled materials, for your Little Rose purchases.
Finally, a huge thank you from me for visiting Little Rose and helping the Little Rose community to grow.
